UPCEA eDesign Collaborative ThinkTank Roadshow: Johns Hopkins University (Virtual)
Johns Hopkins University May 22, 2020 Engineering Success in Online Learning In the interest of providing more opportunities for eDC members, this ThinkTank is entirely virtual. This is a two-hour event where we get to know a new university team and have a working session together.
Join members of Johns Hopkins University’s Centers for Learning Design and Digital and Media Initiatives as they recount the journey towards engineering success in online programs, learn more about the team and how they collaborate, their course development process, and where they are headed into the future.
The design and development of Johns Hopkins Engineering for Professionals’ (EP) online and virtual live graduate engineering class offerings are supported by its two centers: Center for Learning Design (CLD) and the Center for Digital and Media Initiatives (CDMI). The CLD and CDMI partner closely to create high-quality online graduate engineering courses. They apply a systematic, collaborative design and development approach that leverages their collective expertise in online course pedagogy, faculty development, student motivation and engagement, educational technology, and multimedia, all while developing and maintaining personal relationships between staff and faculty.
Engineering for Professionals’ mostly adjunct faculty are leaders in their professional fields and are supported by both the academy-style professional development offerings and a 1:1 assignment to a highly qualified instructional designer. The ID manages the entire project from start to finish, including helping faculty conceptualize the overall design of the course, developing content, preparing to teach, and more. The data-driven, systematic and scalable course development process has evolved over time and served to guide EP in the creation of more than 300 online courses.

Detailed instructions on how to access the ThinkTank will be provided a few days prior to the event. We encourage you to read these instructions carefully and test your system prior to the ThinkTank. The ThinkTank will be hosted on a system provided by the featured institution, not UPCEA technology. Registration: Your registration will not be complete until you have both completed the registration form and submitted your payment (for non-UPCEA members). UPCEA reserves the right to cancel the event if a minimum number of registrants has not been reached 30 days prior to the event. Full refunds will be granted to paid participants if UPCEA cancels the event. Refunds: All registration cancellations must be made in writing and received 30 days prior to the event. No refunds or credits will be granted, rather paid registrations can be moved to another 2020 ThinkTank event. Please submit all requests to Jacqueline Romero at jromero@upcea.edu. Anyone who is registered but cannot attend may send a substitute from the same organization. Refunds will not be given for no-shows.
